Clinical supervision

Clinical supervision is a formal process which creates a supportive environment encouraging reflective practice and the improvement of therapeutic skills. Supervision is used by psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists, social workers, allied health care workers, managers and other staff in human services delivery programs.

Supervision can be used for:

  • To assist in the professional development of the clinician
  • To meet agency or regulatory needs (such as registration bodies)
  • Supervision is an ethical and professional necessity.
  • Supervision can be used to meet regulatory requirements and/or on a specific need’s basis, as in response to a particular issue or dilemma.
